WE’RE POTTY ABOUT NETHERTON FOUNDRY SPUN-IRON PANS.

At ProAdventure we stock famous brand products and supplies from many different producers of outdoor equipment around the world. But we also support many local businesses and industries by stocking quality outdoor products designed and created closer to home.

nethertonOne recent addition to the range of outdoor cooking supplies that ProAdventure have on offer comes from the family owned business of Netherton Foundry in Highley, south Shropshire.

Netherton’s objective is to design and build quality products made from materials sourced in Shropshire and its neighbouring counties. Their products use finishes and materials that can be restored and even improve with age, and we liked their  oven-safe, spun-iron pans with oak handles so much, we are now offering them to our own customers.

Netherton Foundry uses the metal spinning process to make their iron frying pans, saucepans and woks. A spun frying pan is typically half the weight of a cast iron pan, but has similar cooking properties. (Netherton use their cast iron for casserole dishes.)

Cast and spun iron are both very good conductors of heat and Netherton iron pans distribute heat evenly with no hot spots and will fry virtually ‘fat free’ for exceptionally healthy cooking.

They will last a lifetime (and maybe longer if not dropped onto a hard surface), and are very difficult to bend, warp, dent or scratch.

Netherton Foundry iron-spun pans do not use chemical coatings (like PTFE) so do not have the health dangers from toxic fumes usually associated with high temperature pans. Netherton pre-season their pans at a high temperature with natural flax oil, creating a durable, non-greasy and easy-to-clean coating.

Both cast iron and spun iron re-cycle very easily but Netherton believe that if you care for your pan it could become a family heirloom that you will wish to pass on to the next generation. That’s even better than a lifetime guarantee.
