Using the Tentipi Zirkonflex with Groups – Tried and Tested Product ReviewFebruary 26, 2018
The Tentipi Zirkonflex (and from 2019 the Tentipi Safirflex) is a hybrid of the Larger Tentipi adventure tents and the enormous Tentipi event tents that seat up to 144. The Zirkonflex can be used closed like the Safir 15 and Zirkon 15 tents, but has 8 gussets and extra straps and attachment points to enable any number of sides from 3 to all 16 to be opened up to the elements.
This makes the Zirkonflex a great group shelter and meeting space for large groups of campers. We have used this as a cooking space, storytelling place, camping tent and plan to use it as a shop and display space at festivals. Here we have gathered round a firepit, sheltered from storms, cooked pizza for 30 on our Uuni 3 Pizza oven, welcomed guests and met friends old and new.
One particularly event we started a couple of feet above the waters of Bala lake, but the rain came down, when we pitched it was ten feet from the tent, when we moved the tent the water was lapping at the skirts and the guylines were in the water. Later that night the original pitch was a good ten feet into the lake! Moving and repitching the tent was a quick job for such a large tent.
Pitching the Tentipi Zirkonflex or Safirflex Event Tent
The tent pitches just like one of the larger Tentipi Adventure Tents, then you use flex straps to support the sides you wish to lift while you put out the extra poles which are guyed out with more straps. If you want to lift all the sides you can use a few flex straps to diagonally brace the tent to stop twisting.
Our top tip is to use more poles than Tentipi suggest for stability in wind, and when it is raining alternate poles set shorter and longer so that the Zirkonflex can shed rain easily.
“Great review Peter and I wholeheartedly agree with your comments. I use one for my education business and it can take quite a large group undertaking craft work very easily with the bonus of me being able to put it up quite quickly. It makes a great focal point for events and the children I teach have loved working in it!” Gary Thompson
We have really enjoyed the Zirkonflex this last year, it has been the missing element in our previous Tentipi Camps, giving us the community space and meeting point to focus the camp and bring everyone together. It is flexible in the ways you can pitch it and very stable with about half the tent sides up, using extra poles helps stiffen the tent up, we had it up in a stiff breeze for the 2017 Carrog tipi camp and the tent was stable and quiet.
I wholeheartedly recommend the tent for group use, we have not yet used it for retail display but we are expecting good things from it.
