get your ADRENALINE fix in llangollen

June 27, 2019 Off By Clive Gibney

Llangollen has long been known as a hub for whitewater kayakers and sport climbers. More recently its has become a hotspot for mountainbikers with the addition of some world class Downhill tracks.

Kayaking

The river Dee is renowned amongst watersport enthusiasts as being one of the only white water rivers in England and Wales to run 365 days a year. It’s one of the reasons I decided to make Llangollen my home. It’s easy to take what you have for granted but having this river at my door step is a blessing I will never overlook.

You can park and play at River Active where they have a full fleet of demo boats from Pyranha to try.

If it’s a sport you want to get into then Getafix.com can help.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

The Dee valley is also the home of Stand Up Paddle Board UK. Have a go on Wednesday evenings at the social SUP evening, or get coaching from one of the top SUP coaches in the UK. Leave a comment if you want any more info.

Mountain Biking

Llandegla is situated 15 minutes away from Llangollen and has a cafe, bike shop and bike wash as well as hire bikes. Perfect for beginners to intermediate. If whips, manuals and nose bonks are more your thing you can have a good day ‘sessioning’ B-Line and the skills area. There is a free ride but it does require 100% cranking to clear everything and enjoy it.

If you’re more gravity fed then there is much to discover in the hills around Llangollen. However you will need a guide to find any of it. One Giant Leap (OGL) offers you world class downhill tracks and with an uplift service. This is one of the best places to ride in the uk when the tracks are dry and dusty.

White Water Rafting

With the Dee running 365 days a year you can come rafting in Llangollen when ever you want! Rafting is a sport you can enjoy with your family and friends or as part of an action packed hen or stag do.

Climbing

Llangollen is often over looked as a climbing destination but with some beautifully pristine limestone rock it should be on any climbers UK list. You don’t need to be a professional either, there are many local outdoor companies that can take you climbing in a safe environment

Paragliding

Something I have never done but on a clear sunny day with the wind in the right direction, just look up and there’s a good chance you will see a para-glider dancing above the town. If you fancy a go check out YX paragliding.

If you want something a bit more chilled have a look here.
